[Bangkok, Thailand] La Scala : Taste of White Alba Truffles

La Scala, a Michelin Guide and award-winning restaurant. Voted Bangkok’s best Italian restaurant, thrice.

Renowned Italian restaurant La Scala has been headed by some of the best Italian chefs Bangkok has seen such as Maurizio Menconi, who’s now at “Italian-omakase” restaurant White Lies, and David Tamburini, who recently moved to Japan to work at ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe. The spot Chef David vacated has been filled in by seasoned chef Anthony Burd, whose specialty is bringing ingredients-focused creations to the table.

Chef Anthony trained at the Culinary Institute of America before venturing out to work in Italy and Hong Kong. It was in the latter post that he became executive chef at the now-closed Mercato, the Italian eatery by world-acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. At La Scala in Bangkok, the chef is determined to bring together all the good bits from his culinary past.

The restaurant in December came alive with the magnificent aroma of White Truffles from the Alba region of northern Italy, providing guests with a rare opportunity to indulge in the ultimate truffle experience for both lunch and dinner. Featuring dishes such as White truffle tartare and Tartufo angel pasta, we enjoyed a tasting menu of the restaurant’s best picks during our press stay at the Sukhothai.
